Catholic Bishop Urges Conscience Formation Ahead of Anambra Election

The Catholic Bishop of Awka, Most Reverend Paulinus Chukwuemeka Ezeokafor, has reaffirmed his dedication to shaping the consciences of the people under his guidance to ensure they make informed decisions in the upcoming Gubernatorial Election in Anambra State.
During a meeting at his office at the Catholic Secretariat in Awka, the Bishop welcomed a delegation from the All Progressives Congress (APC), led by Governorship Aspirant Sir Paul Chukwuma.
He emphasised the importance of evangelisation and conscience formation in the Church’s involvement in politics and governance, stating that while the Church does not engage in partisan politics, they understand the concerns and needs of the people at the grassroots level.
“We know what the people feel,” the Bishop stated boldly.
The Bishop urged the visiting APC delegation, including National Chairman Alhaji Umar Ganduje, to focus on bringing the benefits of democracy to the South East, promoting national unity, and ensuring holistic development.
Reduce poverty
He explained that effective governance could reduce poverty, hunger, and dissatisfaction among the populace.
Quoting a biblical passage, the Bishop highlighted the role of righteous leadership in bringing joy to the people and emphasised his responsibility in guiding the people to choose their leaders wisely.
Addressing the APC aspirants, the Bishop urged them to present themselves effectively to the public, emphasising the need to “Market Yourselves” to the electorate.
The APC National Chairman, Alhaji Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, assured the Bishop of the party’s commitment to national unity and development.
Guide the public
He recognised the Bishop’s influence and wisdom, expressing confidence in his ability to guide the public in selecting capable leaders.
The visit included the exchange of hospitality symbols, gift presentations, prayers, and a group photograph. John Bosco Onunkwo, representing the party, thanked the Bishop for his warm reception and support.
