Character AI Introduces New Parental Supervision Tools
Character AI, a company that enables users to interact with AI-generated characters through calls and texts, has announced new parental supervision tools to enhance the safety of teenage users.
This move comes amid lawsuits and criticism about the platform’s role in protecting underage users from harm.
Weekly Email Summaries for Guardians
The startup revealed that parents and guardians will now receive weekly email summaries detailing their teens’ activity on the app.
These reports include insights such as the average time spent on the app and the web, the time devoted to interactions with each character, and a list of the top characters the teen engaged with during the week.

However, the company clarified that parents would not have direct access to the chat logs themselves.
Past Safety Measures
In response to earlier lawsuits, Character AI had introduced various safety measures, including a dedicated model for users under 18, notifications about time spent on the platform, and disclaimers reminding users they are communicating with AI characters.
It also implemented classifiers to block sensitive content specifically for teen users.
Lawsuit Controversy
Earlier this year, the company sought to dismiss a lawsuit accusing it of contributing to a teenager’s tragic death.
