Chelsea Holds Liverpool At Stamford Bridge
Chelsea held Liverpool to a hard-fought 1-1 draw in their Premier League encounter at Stamford Bridge on Sunday, with both sides sharing the spoils on the opening weekend of England’s top flight football.
The hosts started Raheem Sterling and Nicolas Jackson in attack in a 3-5-2 formation. For Liverpool, Diogo Jota featured up-front with Egyptian Mohamed Salah and Luis Diaz supporting on the flanks.
Liverpool struck first as winger Luis Diaz converted Salah’s brilliant through ball in the 18th minute.
The Blues looked for a way back into the encounter and were rewarded in the 37th minute.
Chelsea equalised through debutant Axel Disasi, with the defender scoring from close-range to beat Liverpool goalkeeper Alisson.
Salah and Chelsea defender Ben Chilwell both had goals ruled out by the VAR for tight offside calls in an action-packed first half in which the Liverpool forward struck the bar.
However, both sides could not find the net in the second half as the match finished 1-1 at Stamford Bridge.

“I think we deserved a little bit more overall,” Chelsea boss Mauricio Pochettino said after the match. “We feel pleased, but at the same time disappointed because we wanted to win and we deserved to win. But it is only the beginning.”
“We have created a very good way to work here and that is important. It is about belief and about work and to trust each other. The connection from day one has been fantastic.”
Brighton & Hove Albion midfielder Moises Caicedo has reportedly chosen to join Chelsea over Liverpool, which could prove a more important result than the draw. It was evident that both sides are in need of a ball-winning midfielder of the Ecuadorian’s caliber.
Chelsea will face West Ham next away from home in the Premier League, while Liverpool will host AFC Bournemouth.
