The Anambra State chapter of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) has  elected the former youth leader of the party, Mr. Chidi Chidebe.

He emerged after a closely contested election held early on Thursday morning. Chidebe emerged victorious with 1,080 votes, defeating his opponent, Mr. Amechi Onowu, who garnered 960 votes, at the Professor Dora Akunyili Women Development Center in Awka.

The election, noted for its peaceful, fair, and transparent process, was overseen by the Deputy Governor of Enugu State, Mr. Ifeanyi Ossai, who urged Chidebe to prioritise efforts to rebuild and reconcile aggrieved party members.

“Anambra State is critical to our party. Victories can only be celebrated when we are united under one umbrella,” Ossai remarked during the declaration ceremony.

Chidebe expressed gratitude for his election, labeling it an “act of God,” and extended a hand of fellowship to his rival, emphasizing that the collective goal is to restore the PDP’s prominence in Anambra State. He stated, “This victory is not for one person; it is a victory for all of us. I assure you that we will collaborate to make the 2025 Anambra State governorship election a transformative one.”

His administration plans to focus on several key initiatives as part of his campaign manifesto, dubbed “Reviving, Rebuilding, and Repositioning the PDP for a Victorious Future.” This agenda includes:

1.  Healing divisions within the party and fostering collaboration.

2. Increasing party membership and reconnecting with communities through effective outreach campaigns.

3.  Enhancing ties with national PDP leadership and local government representatives within 30 days of taking office.

4.  Implementing measures for resource mobilization aimed at ensuring accountability in party activities within two months.

5. Positioning the PDP as a voice for good governance and impactful policy changes.

Party leaders, including the Woman Leader, Mrs. Calista Admachukwu, and Vice Chairman Olisemeka Chukwukelu, expressed their commitment to mobilize grassroots support and restore confidence among members ahead of the critical 2025 elections.

Former House of Representatives member Christian Okeke called on the new executive to cultivate party harmony and lead efforts to galvanize the electorate, emphasising the importance of collaboration and community engagement.

As Chidebe steps into his role, he faces the vital task of unifying the party and mobilizing support to navigate the challenges ahead, signaling a renewed hope for the PDP in Anambra State.
