As part of enhancing the relationship between China and Nigeria into a more comprehensive strategic partnership, Hunan Province and the Federal Capital Territory Administration have pledged to bolster collaboration in urban development, cultural education, tourism, and environmental initiatives, among other key areas.

The Minister of State for the Federal Capital Territory, Mariya Mahmoud welcomed the Hunan Province delegation on behalf of the Administration, underscoring the significance of their strategic partnership.

She highlighted that working together in these essential sectors would enable Hunan Province and the Federal Capital Territory Administration to pool their resources, knowledge, and expertise, stating, “This can lead to greater innovation, more effective problem-solving, and enhanced capabilities that would be hard to achieve independently.”

“Partnerships promote mutual benefits, strengthen both individual and collective efforts, and foster growth and resilience,” she added.

Mahmoud expressed gratitude to the delegation for the warm reception they extended to FCT Minister  Nyesom Wike and his team during their recent visit to China, expressing optimism about achieving positive outcomes.

She also acknowledged China’s commitment to following up since the FCT delegation’s visit, emphasizing the need to explore further collaboration opportunities. “You have witnessed the advancements in the FCT’s infrastructure; those familiar with the area’s past can see the transformation under this administration, presenting numerous areas for collaboration,” she noted.

Earlier, Lai Mingyong, vice chairman of the Hunan Provincial Political Consultative Conference and head of the delegation remarked on Abuja’s status as Nigeria’s capital and its role as a political-cultural hub, describing it as an international city full of modern charm.

He praised the city for its distinctive urban planning, impressive architecture, and well-developed infrastructure, highlighting its evolution into a modern metropolis with significant infrastructure accomplishments.

Mingyong invited the FCT Administration to participate in the China-Africa Economy and Trade Expo initiated by President Xi Jinping, expressing hope that fruitful new collaborations would emerge from the event.

It is worth noting that on September 3, 2024, President Xi Jinping met with Nigerian President Bola Ahmed Tinubu during his visit to China for the Beijing summit of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation, where both leaders announced the elevation of China-Nigeria relations to a comprehensive strategic partnership.
