China, Nigeria Reaffirm Commitment to enhancing cultural ties.

The Republic of China and Nigeria have reaffirmed their commitment to enhancing cultural ties by showcasing the rich traditions of both nations through music, arts, and dance.

 

 

The Cultural Counselor of the Chinese Embassy and Director of the China Cultural Centre in Nigeria (CCCN), Mr Yang Jianxing, said the collaboration not only highlights the unique cultural heritage of each country but also fosters deeper understanding and appreciation among their people.
Mr Yang remarked on Thursday at the opening of the 12th China-Nigeria Cultural Fiesta 2024 –Dancing Competition hosted by the Embassy of the People’s Republic of China through the Chinese Cultural Centre In Nigeria and organized in partnership with the FCT Secondary Education Board in Abuja.

 

 

Yang emphasized that culture serves as the foundation for national development and the catalyst for social progress, noting that both China and Nigeria are cultural powerhouses with rich histories.

 

“By highlighting shared values and traditions, the event seeks to build bridges and deepen friendships across cultures,“ he said.

 

He encouraged students from the 12 participating secondary schools in FCT to actively engage in the cultural fiesta, emphasizing the importance of embracing diversity and learning from one another.
He advised them to take this opportunity to explore new perspectives, share their traditions, and build meaningful connections that can promote lasting friendships between their cultures.
Yang urged the students, as the future of Nigeria, to not only acquire scientific and technological knowledge but also to develop cultural skills, enabling them to become well-rounded individuals and fully embrace life each day.

 

 

While speaking, the Director/Secretary of the FCT Secondary Education Board, Dr Mohammed Ladan, who was represented by the Director, of Core Curricular FCT Secondary Education Board, Mrs Fatima Gambo expressed appreciation to the Cultural Counselor and the Chinese Embassy for sponsoring this event annually and for providing very beneficial prizes to the schools.

 

“I thank the Co-curricular Division of the FCT Secondary Education Board for their dedication in ensuring that the annual event is constant and standard. The Chinese Corner School Principals too are highly appreciated for their commitment to the day-to-day running of the corners,“ she said.
“Our collaboration has proven mutually beneficial, and we eagerly anticipate further opportunities for fruitful cooperation,“ she added.

 

The highlight of the event was a dancing competition featuring 12 public secondary schools in Abuja, competing in two main categories: Chinese songs, dance and Nigerian songs and dance.
