This was stated at the CHOPs First National Conference in Abuja, Nigeria, with the theme: “Building Bridges of Hope: Strengthening Rotary Leadership.”

Speaking at the event, the Representative of CHOPs Federal Capital Territory (FCT) and the immediate Past President of Rotary Club of Kubwa, Abuja, Mr. Emmanuel Abonta, emphasized the need to communicate the importance of a safe environment to the younger generation.

We are gathered here today to unite all our members in Nigeria and those across Africa, to share a bond of unity and discuss ideas on how to continue being relevant to society.

We are launching the Green School Initiative, through which we will advocate in schools across the nation, creating awareness on the need for a sustainable environment. It is essential to ensure a healthy environment for everyone. This initiative is about creating hope and securing a future for all of us. We are also focused on creating opportunities for economic growth for our members while serving humanity and our communities,” he said.

On the origin of the Create Hope Presidents (CHOPs), the International Leader of the CHOPs Rotary Fellowship, Captain Paul Ojinta, stressed that the objective of the fellowship is not just to lead, but to cultivate a legacy of transformational leadership that spans generations.

“The impact we are making is not only beneficial to us, but also to the community.

Our joy is to create hope, and to keep hope alive, we must extend this to those in need.

This national conference serves as a call to action, a moment to reflect on the power of Rotary leadership, service, our global network, and hope.

Through engaging discussions, business meetings, knowledge sharing, and strategic networking, we aim to equip ourselves with the tools and insights necessary to address contemporary challenges.

Let us reaffirm our commitment to creating lasting change within our communities and the world.

Together, through CHOPs, we can shape a future where leadership is driven by compassion, collaboration, and an unwavering belief in the power of hope,” he said.

Also speaking, the District Coordinator of CHOPs International Fellowship for 9127 Nigeria, Rtn. Ayodele Steven PHF, noted that the conference is a significant step toward promoting peace and understanding through community service.

“We will not just combat heat waves or beautify our streets with beautiful trees and ornaments. We will go into schools to plant economic trees so that in-school children can benefit,” he said.

On her part, the Warfare Coordinator of Create Hope Presidents (CHOPs) Fellowship and and past president Rotary club Apo, Amara Ezedinwa, shared her key takeaway from the conference.

As a Rotarian, you’re constantly serving humanity. You want to help, add a smile, and make a difference.

What has happened today reinforces what we already know—our mission is to continue serving humanity. Now, we’re taking it to another level.

The people who served Rotary as presidents in 2023 and 2024 with the theme ‘Create Hope in the World’ are continuing that charge.

I am leaving here more determined to do whatever I can for humanity. We have to leave a legacy while we are on this earth.

We’re not just surviving for ourselves, but we are also existing for the world. That’s one of the key takeaways for me from this conference. We will continue to encourage everyone to add value to humanity wherever possible,” she said.

At the end of the conference, members were urged to embrace the power of succeeding together and to make service not just a duty, but a way of life.

Create Hope Presidents (CHOPs) is a fellowship of Rotarians who served as Presidents in the year 2023-2024 when Rotary has the theme Create Hopein the World, with the goal of fostering unity, supporting one another, and creating hope in the world through service projects.
