Chukwueze Set for Champions League Starting Debut
AC Milan manager Paulo Fonseca may give Nigerian international Samuel Chukwueze his first UEFA Champions League start when the Rossoneri face Slovakian side Slovan Bratislava on Tuesday.
Since his transfer from Villarreal last season, Chukwueze has struggled to secure a consistent spot in Fonseca’s starting lineup, despite showing moments of brilliance.
The Super Eagles winger was an unused substitute in Milan’s 3-1 loss to Liverpool in their group opener. He then came off the bench in the 80th minute during their 1-0 defeat to Bayer Leverkusen, where he helped prevent a second loss. Against Club Brugge, he featured for 30 minutes, providing an assist in Milan’s 3-1 victory. However, in their 3-1 win over Real Madrid at the Santiago Bernabéu, Chukwueze remained on the bench. Most recently, during Milan’s goalless draw with Juventus at San Siro, he replaced Yunus Musah late in the game.
With Milan’s schedule becoming increasingly packed in December, Fonseca may rotate his squad, offering Chukwueze a chance to start against Slovan Bratislava. If selected, the 25-year-old will aim to impress, potentially scoring his first Champions League goal and adding to his tally of one goal and one assist in 16 appearances this season.
