As Fasting commenced around the world Muslims in Nigeria have been advised to support one another and make provisions for the less privileged.
The Chief Imam of Uthman Bin Affan Islamic Center Wuse Abuja, Umar Aliyu Yanda, made the plea in an interview with Voice of Nigeria’s Correspondence Tanimu Hassan.
Umar further advised the Muslims not to increase the price of foodstuffs as it has become a culture in Nigeria where foodstuffs skyrocket in the country and also assists the less privileged looking at the country’s economic situation.
He said this year’s Month of Ramadan is different as the price of foodstuffs is not as high as it used to be in previous years when many Muslims could not afford it, he also commended the on its effort to control the price of foodstuffs.
“This year, we are seeing a deviation from the usual practice because even those who have gone to stockpile the commodities are beginning to regret that, and we have to commend the government in that direction for trying to see to the stability of prices of commodities.
“Everywhere now, in almost all the markets, things and prices of commodities are coming down drastically; the government must be commended for this, and Alhamdulillah, this is coming at the right time, as the Muslims begin the month of Ramadan. So, the economic hardship of struggling to feed will be reduced by God’s grace to a certain level.
“Let’s always be steadfast in our obedience to our Creator and then to the leadership of our country, particularly in this month of Ramadan
“We have seen what we are going through as a country, of so many crises, of so many things, bandits everywhere, Let’s also use that opportunity to please pray for ourselves and pray for the country, for Allah subhanahu wa ta’ala, to intervene to bring an end or find an everlasting solution to all these tribulations and trials that are taking place in our country.”
Fasting is the act of abstaining from food and drink for some time, typically for spiritual, health, or therapeutic reasons.
The month of Ramadan is one of the twelve months of the Islamic year, and it is the ninth month. It is the month in which all the believers are mandated to observe one month of fasting throughout the month in the daytime.
Certain conditions must be fulfilled before the fasting of the month of Ramadan becomes obligatory upon an individual. He must be a Muslim. He must be sane, not insane.
He must be mature, not minor, someone who has attained the age of maturity
Then he must be physically sound, that is health-wise. And then he must not be a traveler.
And even if he is traveling, he has the option to say he is going too fast. Though he can break his fast while on the journey
