Women in Kaduna State have embraced the newly introduced Save80 clean cooking stove produced by a German group called Atmosfair.

The initiative was introduced with support from the National Council on Climate Change (NCCC) to discourage the harmful trend of indiscriminate felling of trees for firewood, hence aggravating deforestation.

The women declared their support for the initiative in separate interviews shortly after a sensitization programme on the clean stove.

A practical demonstration was made showing how the stove works using a little quantity of firewood.

Hauwa Muhammed, appreciated the organizers of the programme, saying she had learnt that the smoke from firewood was dangerous to health, promising to step down the information to others.

She said she would sensitize women in her community of Unguwan Rimi on the economic importance of the stove especially its safety and easy operational procedures.

Similarly, another woman, Sa’adatu Usman, commended the government for including women in the programme, saying she had learnt a lot from the training.

We were not aware of this stove before,we only know the use of firewood.

” We hope the government will partner with the company to ensure that every household uses the stove,” she said.

Earlier, the All-Progressives Congress (APC) woman leader in the state, Maryam Suleiman, said she had mobilized over 100 participants from across the 23 local governments of the state.

She appreciated the Commissioner for Business Innovation and Technology, Mrs Patience Fakai, for ensuring that women were part of the programme while pledging support for the state government.

Atmosfair Save 80 clean cookstove is an efficient firewood stove that can save 80 per cent of energy, reduce indoor pollution and cost for household energy.
