The Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) has commenced the rehabilitation of the failed sections of the Port Harcourt-Owerri link road.

The NDDC Managing Director, Dr Samuel Ogbuku, announced this development on Tuesday during an inspection of ongoing repair works at the Umuapu and Umuagwo sections of the road.

He explained that the commission undertook the rehabilitation to alleviate the hardship faced by motorists, particularly during the Christmas and New Year festive season.

According to him, the project aligns with President Bola Tinubu’s directive for urgent restoration of dilapidated strategics roads in the Niger Delta region.

“Following the directives, we promptly mobilised construction companies to execute remedial works to ensure the people do not experience unnecessary discomfort while travelling.

“We are confident that these repairs on the Port Harcourt-Owerri Road will stand the test of time once completed.

“As an interventionist agency, we will continue to support both federal and state governments by implementing measures to reduce the stress commuters face daily,” Ogbuku stated.

He expressed satisfaction with the quality of work and optimism that the project would be completed promptly.

Ogbuku urged the road users and communities in the areas to cooperate with the NDDC and the contractor to facilitate timely completion of the repairs.
