Commission Begins Review of Trial Census in Nigeria

The National Population Commission, NPC has began the review of the Trial Census for the 2023 Population and Housing Census in Nigeria.

The post-Trial Census retreat was organised by the Commission with the Theme: 2023 Trial census, lessons learnt and strategies towards a successful census.

The Chairman of the Commission, Mr Nasir Kwarra said the conduct of the last Trial Census was one of the pre-census activities that was undertaken “as a dress rehearsal to the main census exercise”.

Mr Kwarra said that the retreat would ascertain “the level of preparedness of the Commission for the conduct of the 2023 Population and Housing Census.”

The Commission Chairman said he was optimistic that the retreat “will provide the Commission an avenue for candid internal examination of its efforts and performance during the Trial Census.”

He reiterated that it will “appraise the lessons learnt from the exercise will shape the planning and implementation of the 2023 Population and Housing Census project.

“The central focus of the 2023 census is to produce not only accurate, reliable and acceptable census data but also an inclusive and user-friendly census data.”

The Commission’a Chairman added that the retreat was a necessary first step towards strategising for the conduct of a census that would be truly digital, scientific, and produce data that would guide planning within the context of global economic challenges, insecurity and human development.
