Commission donates farm implements, food palliative to Adamawa State
The North East Development Commission (NEDC), has donated agricultural equipment and relief items to Adamawa government, to support perons affected by flood disaster in the state.
The Managing Director of the commission, Mr Mohammed Alkali, said this at the presentation of the items to the state government, on Thursday in Yola.
He said the gesture would assuage the suffering of flood victims and other vulnerable people, adding that the agric equipment would accelerate food production in the state.
Represented by Fatima Bakari, the NEDC Acting Coordinator in the state, urged the state government to ensure that the items reach the targeted beneficiaries.
He said the agricultural equipment include 16 rice mill; eight oil press machines, 35 walking tractors, 35 tillers, 20 rotary tiller, 30 planters, 30 harvesters, 21 threshers and 40 ridgers.
Others are 40 disc plough; 2,000 bags of fertilisers, and three high pressure water pumps.
The food and non food items include 30,000 bags of rice, vegetable oil, pasta, blankets, mats, textile materials and childrens wears.
“This distribution of items symbolise the NEDC’s commitment to supporting the less privilege in the society.
“The commission in collaboration with Adamawa state government also embark on clearing of drainages of about 600 mitres to reduce the risk of flood in the state,” he said.
Mr Dishi Khobe, Chairman of the State Food Security Committee, lauded the gesture, and pledged to judicious distribution of the items to the people in accordance with template and guidelines put in place.
