Commission Plans Mock BVAS Accreditation in Cross River State

The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, has concluded plans to sample the Bimodal Voter Accreditation System (BVAS) in Cross River State, southern Nigeria ahead of the February 25th presidential and parliamentary elections.

The Head of Voter Education at the commission in Cross River State, Ms Anthonia Nwobi said that there was need to test the efficacy of the BVAS machines before the election to identify and tackle any hitches, which may be observed.

Nwobi said the test would commence on February 4 through 11, 2023 in twelve polling units across the 3 senatorial districts, noting “the exercise will commence at 8 o’ clock in the morning and close at 2 o’ clock in the afternoon. The exercise is meant for only registered voters, who have collected their Permanent Voters Cards, PVCs.”

She urged the people, particularly registered voters, who would be interested in participating in the mock exercise, to adhere to every instructions given, stressing “this is to test the viability or functionality of the BVAS machines. We do not want to have challenges that day. In Cross River State, we would be testing some in specific terrains so that we can take all there is into consideration and take appropriate actions.”

So, we are appealing to the people in advance to abide by instructions of official deployed for the exercise for a successful outcome“, she said.

She added that at the conclusion of the mock voter accreditation exercise, the commission would publicise the outcome of the exercise.
