The National Population Commission, NPC has pledged its commitment to supporting all activities geared towards meeting the humanitarian needs of the vulnerable in Nigerian communities.
NPC, Chairman, Mr. Nasir Isa Kwarra, who disclosed this in Abuja, during the installation and investiture ceremony of the 22nd President of the Lions club and its board members.
He also stressed the need for forging stronger friendships, innovation and excellence in all human endeavors.
“Since the club is doing part of what the commission is supposed to do. by coordinating all the affairs relating to the well-being of Nigerians. The core essence of collating demography and socioeconomic data is for the purpose of planning, what we plan for, we plan for the benefit of our people, whether is for education, health, or infrastructure, the data is going to be well of. Already the club is already rendering a lot of services, especially in the health sector by establishing a diagnostic center for diabetes and cancer. We cannot but support the club by releasing some time that the incoming President will be spending with us in the commission so that he can serve the club and Nigerians better. We support Lion Club in all possible ways to meet humanitarian services”, he said.
Also speaking, the outgoing President of the Club, Dooshima Tsumba, said she was able to achieve a lot during her tenure due to the support of the club members.
“I’m overwhelmed with a sense of gratitude to God. It has been a creditable journey, filled with remarkable achievements, impactful projects and unwavering commitment to our lion’s motto of “We Serve”. Throughout the year, we have embarked on our entire project in all five thematic areas. While making a positive difference in the lives of those we serve. We started our journey with the Continues Quality Improvement project, we had a youth employment programme. As a club, we recognized the importance of raising awareness about pediatric cancer. We donated computer desktops to the School of the Deaf in kuje. These projects along with other initiatives have not only impacted the individual of our community but have also reinforced the spirit of goodwill that define Lions Club worldwide. Through our collective efforts and unwavering dedication and commitment we have been able to achieve all these, she noted.
The newly inaugurated 22nd President of Lion’s Club Wuse, Abuja, Mr. Mohammed Abubakar, while giving his acceptance speech solicited support from all members and aspiring members towards more humanitarian services.
“I just want to sustain the tempo for what Wuse Abuja is recognised for. I intend to equip the diabetic hospital that the club has built-in Gwarimpa General Hospital., I also intend to build an eye clinic at recognised hospital during my Lion’s year and other programs in line with the core values of the Lions Club. I solicit my members’ support as you can’t do this alone you require the support of all. I solicit their support and contributions as we try to attain our goals for the club. As a lion you have to commit your time and resources or talent. If the time is not there you have to mobilise resources to the project. And I have very viable 2nd vice and 3rd vice to assist me in this journey”, Abubakar said.
Also speaking, the District Governor, District 404 A2 Nigeria, Mr. Charles Itu, charged the new board members to work with dedicated passion.
“Today marks a new chapter in your journey of service, compassion, and unity. Your commitment to making a positive impact in our communities is the driving force behind the transformative work we undertake. Through your leadership, unwavering spirit, and teamwork, I am confident that your club will continue to be a beacon of hope for those in need. As you take the oath to uphold Lions International values, remember that you are part of a global movement united by a shared purpose. Your passion combined with fellow members’ support will undoubtedly create ripples of positive change worldwide. Embrace challenges with an open heart and steadfast commitment to our mission. Your efforts contribute greatly towards creating a brighter future for our district. Let your club inspire growth while being an example of remarkable achievements when compassionate individuals unite. We are doing a lot of humanity service projects a lot of people are in need and as lions, it is a clarion call for all to join hands in meeting the needs of the vulnerable”, Itu urged.
The International Association of Lions Club is a non-governmental organization that embarks on humanity and community service without financial reward.
