The National Hajj Commission of Nigeria, (NAHCON), has signed the 2024 Hajj pilgrimage airlift agreement with two  federal government approved airlines.

The agreement was signed in Abuja, the nation’s capital by two Nigerian based Airlines, Max Air and Air Peace that will airlift Nigerian pilgrim to and from Saudi Arabia.

The NAHCON Chairman Malam Jalal Arabi at the signing ceremony called on the air carriers to be diligent in dispatching their duties.

Malam Arabi described the airlines as key partners in progress in the Hajj operation.

He said it would be an understatement to outline the importance of air careers in the success of hajj operations.

“You are major stakeholders, you are partners in progress and you know the much that is expected of us jointly.

“The humanity in you tells you that it is your own responsibility. The more you try to excel and to prove your worth, the more we will be taking the bullets on your behalf. Do the best you can to live within standard.” Arabi emphasised

He, therefore, urged the airlines not to betray the trust placed in them by the commission in selecting them to partake in this year’s operation.

NAHCON Commissioner in Charge of Operations, Prince Anofi Elegushi, said the event marked a significant milestone aimed at ensuring smooth operations this year.

“The signing of this agreement with our airlines is a testament to our commitment to providing the best possible service for our pilgrims.

“As we move forward with the implementation of this agreement, I am confident that our collaboration with the airlines will result in a positive and impactful experience for our pilgrims.”

The Acting Director General of the Nigerian Civil Aviation Agency (NCAA), Captain Chris Najomo, who was represented by the Director of Aerodromes and Airspace Standards urged the airlines to ensure adequate preparations.

He said the NCAA had already commenced its work, ahead of time, stating that hajj is a predictable operation

“Fifteen aerodromes have been inspected, and all issues have been communicated and are being addressed.” He said

NAHCON had earlier announced Max Air, Air Peace, alongside Saudi-based airline FlyNas, as the successful airlines to airlift Nigerian pilgrims and officials this year, but unfortunately FlyNas, sent words that they missed their flight to Nigerians for the signing ceremony.
