Commission Urges Journalists To Sensitize Residents On Vote Buying.

Journalists in Nasarawa state have been urged to sensitize residents on vote buying as the 2023 election is around the corner.

The Independent electoral commission, Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC), Abdulrahman Agidagba, stated this during a courtesy call by the Correspondent chapel Exco in Lafia the state capital.

He explained that there is a need to partner with the media because whatever we do, journalists are the ones to inform the public about it.

Agidagba said, “The 2023 election is very crucial because of the circumstances of the election process, and INEC is ready to give the Nation a credible, fair, inclusive and unbiased election, that is why we have gone scientific”.

“Please as partners, there is a need to also scale up the sensitization of the youth to Shun violence, as bullets don’t recognize anybody, tribe, or position”.

He also disclosed that the electronic transfer of results and other innovations brought into the system by the Commission were preparing grounds for electronic voting and other considerations in future elections.

 

Civil right

The commissioner, further assured those who participated in the recently concluded continuous voters’ registration exercise that the commission would ensure they collect their Permanent Voters’ Cards (PVCs) before the 2023 general elections.

Meanwhile, the chairman of the correspondent chapel of the Nigeria Union of Journalists Isaac Ukpoju, said the chapel’s officials were in his office to familiarize themselves with the commission to enlighten the general public on the forthcoming general election in the country.

The chapel chairman assured the commission of needed publicity to educate the general public to exercise their civil right.
