Commissioner Commends President Initiative on Livestock Ministry

The Commissioner of Nomadic and Pastoral Affairs in Niger State north central, Alhaji Umar Sanda Rebe, has praised the significant strides made by the President in establishing the Livestock Ministry. This effort aims to bring lasting solutions to the persistent farmers-herders crisis and improve the well-being of citizens.

The commissioner stated this during an interview with newsmen in his office in Minna, noting that the move will help control the crisis and eliminate related issues across the country.

Rebe further mentioned that in Niger State, Governor Umar Mohammed Bago has designed a comprehensive roadmap to address the farmers-herders issues, receiving widespread commendation within the state and nationwide.

He noted that the establishment of the Ministry of livestock by the President Ahmed Tinubu administration was as a result of the blueprint forwarded to the president by governor Umar Bago informing the president of the establishment of the Nomadic and pastoral Ministry in Niger State.

The establishment of the ministry in Niger State, according to the Commissioner has assisted in bringing about the lasting harmonious and peaceful coexistence among herders and farmers in the state.

The commissioner said “the ministry has initiated several projects to collect statistical data on herders and develop a plan to advance the ministry’s objectives.”

He disclosed that as part of the commitment of governor Umar Bago of establishing the Ministry for Nomadic and pastoralist Affairs, under his administration he has directed for the collection of data of Nomadic schools across the state for prompt action.

Alhaji Umar Sanda Rebe emphasized that the newly created federal Livestock Ministry is a step toward uniting the nomads and farmers in the country.

He also urged other state governors to follow Governor Umar Mohammed Bago’s example and establish similar ministries in their respective states.

In a separate reaction, the leader of the Fulani in the Minna Emirate, Alhaji Hassan Shiroro (Wakilin Fulanin Masarautar Minna), commended the President for this bold initiative, saying the Fulani community will feel the full impact of this present administration, especially in Niger State.

Shiroro further stated that the initiative will enhance the cordial relationship between the herders and farmers in the country.

Speaking further, Hassan Shiroro disclosed that governor Umar Bago has Promised Fulanis in the state that his administration has concluded plans to sponsor a total of one hundred children of nomads to Foreign countries to pursue their studies in various fields of studies.

He explained that among the courses, include pilot, Medicine, Engineering among other relevant disciplines that will will be meaningful for the development of manpower in the state and the country in general.

He stated further that governor Umar Bago has created an enabling and conducive environment for nomads in Niger state to have a sense of belonging to contribute their quotas in socio economic and political development of the state and the country at large.

While appealing to other state governors to emulate the giant strides made by Governor Umar Mohammed Bago in bringing lasting solutions to the long-standing farmers-herders crisis in the state. Hassan Shiroro called on other state governors in the Northern states to borrow a leave from the governor so as to build on the kind gesture extended to the nomads Community in Niger state.
