The House of Representatives Committee on Public Accounts has given the Group Managing Director of the Nigeria National Petroleum Corporation NNPC to appear before it or risk arrest by security agents.

The development followed the refusal of the GMD Mr.Mele Kyari to appear before the probe panel on the 10th invitation extended to him and the management of the corporation to appear before the committee.

The committee is probing an audit query raised by the Auditor-General of the Federation on the disappearance of over three trillion Naira, which is about Ten Billion Dollar from the coffers of the agency and seventeen of its subsidiaries.

But the NNPC in a document submitted to the Committee Chairman had pleaded with the committee to reschedule the meeting.

The document which was signed by the General Manager Public Affairs Dr. K. A Obateru said he acknowledged the receipt of the committee’s letter dated February 1,2021 on the matter.

He further said that he wishes to reassure the Leadership of the National Assembly of the Federal Republic of Nigeria that the NNPC holds it in very high regard and esteem.
