The House Committee on Tertiary Education and Services has tasked Colleges of Education Academic Staff Union (COEASU) to seek alternative ways of proffering solutions to the challenges facing the system without disrupting academic calendars.

Headed by the Chairman, Aminu Suleiman stated this during the opening of a three-day All Stakeholders Summit on Repositioning the Colleges of Education for improved efficiency and effectiveness.

He further challenged COEASU to assess the internal mechanism of the system saying that unions must not only hold the government accountable, but have other options to improve and sustain the education system without affecting the students.

The Minister of Education, Adamu Adamu, represented by Director Tertiary Education in the ministry, Rakiya Iliyasu said the conference was apt as it would deliberate on issues of governance, curriculum, alternative funding, and quality assurance of the COEs.

Also, President of COEASU, Mr Nuhu Ogrima said that lecturers in the system were overworked saying that the system was at the lowest ebb.
