Community Seeks Sustainable Development Through Youths Empowerment

Association of Izhi Nnodo Clan (AICON) of Ebonyi State, Lagos Chapter has upheld community development as a prerequisite for national development, irrespective of how far or close one is from home.

 

The Izhi Nondo Clan, Lagos Chapter, while holding its first meeting of the year,  deemed it necessary to bring every association member living in Lagos State under one umbrella, to chart a course for the wellbeing of the members and the entire community.

 

The President of the Association, Chief Edwin Ebili, who was enthusiastic about the meeting and the reasons behind it, solicited members’ cooperation for the development of their youths and the community at large.

He says: “Today marks a pivotal moment as we gather to discuss the development of our youths. Our future lies in nurturing their potential, providing opportunities, and fostering a supportive environment. Let’s create avenues for education, skill-building, and empowerment to ensure a prosperous tomorrow for all,” he opined.

 

The Izhi clan known to have been putting up different measures to curtail street hawking in Lagos especially as most of its youths engage in such activities, applauded the Lagos State government for taking a decisive step to banning street trading and hawking.

 

Chief Ebili while expressing appreciation for the ban says “I urge each one of us to reconsider not allowing our children to engage in street hawking again. While it may seem like a means of survival, let’s explore alternative avenues for their livelihood by investing in education and skills. We should empower them with skills and knowledge to break the cycle of poverty, ensuring a brighter and more secure future for our community as a whole,” he said.

 

While the Izhi community strategies on how to pave the way for sustainable and dignified livelihoods, Chief Ebili informed the meetings on an upcoming empowerment for its youths as a means of support to weather the recent harsh economic situation in Nigeria.

He noted that the training will be bankrolled by the Ebonyi State government. The president equally thanked the Ebonyi State Government for their support and growth of the association as well as other members of the Izhi clan for the financial support to the association so far.

 

Similarly, the General Secretary of the AICON, Mr. Chibuzor Iziogo appreciated the members for the large turnout and intimated them on the organisation’s action plan for the year, ” I welcome you all to our first meeting of the year. I am thrilled to see familiar faces and new prospects joining us today. Together, let us embark on a journey of collaborative development and growth for Izhi Nnodo Clan. Your presence and ideas contribute to the vitality of our shared vision. Thank you for being here”, he said.

The objective of the community meeting is to facilitate communication, share information, gather input, address concerns, and foster collaborations among community members to collectively work towards common goals and solutions.
