The Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Taoreed has called for a deliberate approach to equipping Senior Level Commanders with requisite skills and competencies for enhanced performance in an increasingly complex security environment

While declaring the seminar open, Chief of Army Staff (COAS) Lieutenant General Taoreed Lagbaja reminded the participants of the need to keep up with the complex security threats and the hybrid nature of conflicts.

He pointed out that as modern warfare is no longer fought on battlefields alone, commanders must keep up with information and cyber warfare changes with a focus on developing capabilities to deal with emerging security issues.

“As we continue to advance into the future, senior leaders must be the catalyst of change and inculcate the type of brave need and camaraderie among all personnel and services. I urged you all to strengthen our preparedness and continuously review your contingency plans to ensure effective management of your security environment”

“The Nigerian Army currently faces multiple security threats in highly complex and unstable geopolitical environments, modern warfare is no longer fought on battlefields alone because of the hybrid nature of conflicts, information and cyber warfare including the use of drones and robotics have brought a paradise shift to the battlefield” stated the Army Chief.”

The COAS was represented by the Director General of Nigerian Army Future and Heritage Centre, Major General Obinna Ajunwa.

Earlier the Commander of the Army Headquarters Garrison, Major General Koko Isoni urge the participants to engage themselves in the interactive sessions, especially critical issues bordering on command to be able to harness the full benefits of the seminar.

Speaking on the idea behind the seminar, the Garrison Commander said contemporary security challenges have made it imperative to have this type of seminar that would guide us to providing better professional services.

He stressed that the objective of the Seminar is to consolidate the successes of the First Senior Command and Leadership Seminar held earlier in the year at Headquarters 82 Division.
