The Senator Representing Ebonyi North Senatorial district, Senator Peter Onyekachi Nwebonyi has called for the creation of an additional State in Nigeria’s Southeast for equity and fairness to reign.

Nwebonyi who made the call in an interview with Voice of Nigeria at constitution review committee retreat in Kano noted  that, the creation of the state will guarantee peace in the region.

He also advocated for the revival of the Nigerian Police instead of creating State Police.

He insisted that, the Nigerian Police is capable of policing the entire country if adequately training and equipment are provided with enough manpower.

He argued that, the existing Federal Police needs to be strengthened instead of creating State Police adding that, there should be collaborative efforts from the federal, state and local governments to revive the Nigerian Police.

The Deputy President of the Senate who is the Chairman of the Constitution Review Committee- Senator Barau Jibrin charged the members to take the deliberations with utmost care and consideration adding that, their decisions will have far-reaching effects on the generations yet unborn.

The Committee is saddled with the responsibility of making amendments and reviewing the constitution with a view to bringing up acceptable constitution for the country.
