Nigeria’s governing party, the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC is yet to commence sale of nomination forms to aspirants for positions in its National Working Committee, less than two weeks to the National convention.
According to the schedule of activities released on January 19 by the party’s National Caretaker Extraordinary Convention Planning Committee, the party was to begin sale of forms on Monday, February 14.
However, many aspirants desiring to contest for positions were present at the secretariat on the February 14 to purchase the forms but could not get it.
Two national chairmanship aspirants sent emissaries to make enquiries on the sales of forms, while four National Youth Leader aspirants and one Zonal Organising Secretary aspirant from the Southeast, who visited the National Secretariat to purchase forms, were disappointed.
This led to aggrieved youths in the party staging a protest because of an alleged plot by the governors to hijack the convention.
Some party members have speculated that the delay in the sale of forms could be due to the fact that the APC leadership has not decided on a zoning formula and are also trying to reach a consensus arrangement for the different positions of the National Working Committee.
