COP29: Niger State Seeks Global Partners To Deepen Green Economy

The Niger state government says
it has put in place required framework to enable the state move in green economy.
Secretary to the State government, Mr Abubakar Usman who disclosed this at the State’s side event at the ongoing COP29 in Baku Azerbaijan, says the state government is building on its remarkable appearance at COP28 to put in place frameworks to move in green cycle.
He reaffirmed the state government commitment to driving a green economy, leveraging its abundant natural resources and strategic frameworks to position itself as a leader in Nigeria’s sustainability efforts.
“The Green Initiative was launched sometime last year by his Excellency, where we had the Green Economic Summit and since then, we have never stopped, from there, we went to the last COP before now and announced our presence.”
“And today, here we are again with the follow-up of what we were able to do in the last year COP, before coming to this COP29, we made sure that we needed to do all we had to do, which had to do with the required framework.”
“As you we all know, Niger States is endowed with natural resources, beginning from arable land, where we are sitting on 76,000 square kilometers and many bodies of waters and many natural resources.” He said.
Mr Usman further stressed that the team has met with different organizations with the aim of attracting investments to boost the green economy drive of the government.
“We are ready for collaboration. We are also discussing with other international agencies where we hope to go back home with some deals, of course, and that is quite visible.Like I said, we have come up with the necessary framework that will enable us to thrive in this cycle.”
“We also have passed the necessary laws. We have appointed the necessary consultants, both local and international, and that is giving us edge over others and we are truly ready to go. And like you know, Agriculture is our main stay in Niger state and Nigeria at large and we are leveraging on that to make sure we truly drive the benefits of the green.” He said.
Mr Usman, also noted that the Niger state government is also leveraging on Agriculture to make ensure the state drive the benefits of the green economy.
“We have come up with the necessary framework that will enable us to thrive in this cycle.
We also have passed the necessary laws. We have appointed the necessary consultants, both local and international, and that is giving us age over others and we are truly ready to go.”
“And like you know, Agriculture is our main stay in Niger state and Nigeria at large and we are leveraging on that to make sure we truly drive the benefits of the green.” He explained.
Niger state Commissioner, of Environment and Climate change, Mr. Yakubu Kolo, said that the government has received the backing of the State house of Assembly in the green economy drive.
He however reiterated the state government commitment to a more sustainable environment, be it afforestation, waste management and renewable energies.
Mr Kolo is optimistic that the state participation in this year’s COP29 is to leverage what they started in last year COP 28.
“Our participation in this year’s COP is to leverage the momentum we gained from COP28 and continue attracting global collaborations. Niger State is ready to lead in sustainability and green innovation,” he added.
