Court Honours Legal Luminary And Advocate of Environmental Rights

As Nigeria joined the rest of the world to commemorate World Environment Day, the Federal High Court of Nigeria honored a legal luminary who stood for environmental rights and justice in the country.

Nigeria’s Attorney General and Minister of Justice Abubakar Malami at the valedictory session held in Abuja, in honour of late Lucius Ezeakammadu Nwosu SAN, described him as a thorough legal luminary and a master of law.

Malami, represented by Tijjani Gazali SAN recalled the contributions of late Lucius to jurisprudence and the environmental law on the preservation of the environment from pollution caused by oil spillage due to activities of multi national companies in oil producing States of South South Nigeria.

The Nigeria’s Attorney General condoles with the family of the deceased lawyer and called on his colleagues to impact in the society through their legal services.

Also speaking, the Chief Judge of the federal High Court of Nigeria, Justice John Terhemba Tsoho while condoling family of late Lucius, described him as a dogged who offers excellent legal services to clients suffering from environmental degradation in Niger – Delta communities.

He said, ” late Lucius was a fighter for human rights, the legal warrior of Niger – Delta communities and he will be remembered for easing the liability that comes with engaging the services of a lawyer by clients.

Also, the President Nigerian Bar Association NBA Mr Olumide Apkata advocated the need to use the legal instrumentality to address Nigeria’s current security situation.

He called for the revisit of the issue of state police and overhauling of the security architecture in the country.

Also, Former Nigeria’s Attorney General Mr Kanu Agabi who spoke on behalf of the Body of senior advocates of Nigeria Abuja branch called on the bar and bench to work with passion, energy and sincerity for the upliftment of the justice sector and good governance in the country.

The Attorney General of Rivers and Imo States, were among many speakers who throws encomiums on late Lucius Ezeakammadu Nwosu SAN.

The late legal luminary who hailed from Imo State South-South Nigeria, died on the 5th of April 2022.
