Court reserves judgement against Nasarawa West Senatorial Candidate
A Federal High Court in Lafia, Nasarawa State North Central Nigeria has reserved judgment on a case filed by the All Progressives Congress, APC Senatorial candidate, Mr. Labaran Magaji against his opponent, Mr. Shehu Tukur during the primary election held on 19th April 2022.
The delegate’s election was in preparation for the 2023 elections.
The plaintiff, dragged the party and Mr. Tukur winner of the primaries to court, for alleged irregularities and unfair treatment during the conduct of the primaries.
Labaran said; ”the original delegate list was not used for the Senatorial Primaries.”
The trial judge, Justice Afolabi Nehizena, reserved the judgment on the matter after all Counsels adopted their arguments.
The court said ”the date for the judgment would be communicated to the parties in due course.”
Counsel to the plaintiff, Ghali Ahmed who is a Senior Advocate of Nigeria, SAN, told newsmen that ”all the necessary processes have been adopted expressing the belief that justice would be served based on the facts and evidence brought before the court.”
Also, counsel to the first defendant (Shehu Tukur, APC Senatorial candidate) Mr. Mubarak Adekilekun argued that, the court does not have jurisdiction to entertain the matter because it is a party internal affair that should be handled and resolved by the party.
Also speaking to journalists, the plaintiff who is a Senior Advocate of Nigeria SAN, Mr. Labaran Magaji called on his supporters to remain calm and deliver the party in all elections.
Many Senior Advocates of Nigeria attended the court proceedings in solidarity with their colleagues.
