A Magistrate Court 3 sitting in Lafia has reviewed the stiff bail condition of the 38 protesters arrested by the Nigeria Police in Nasarawa State for alleged Conspiracy, Unlawful Assembly and Disturbance by Fire.
The Magistrate in charge of the court, Mohammed Abdullahi-Lanze reviewed the bail condition when rulling on the application filed by counsels to the defendants.
The Magistrate said the earlier condition that the surety must be a Director with the State or Federal Government and submit the bond of N2million was reviewed following the application by the counsels to the defendants.
He listed the new bail condition to includes; a reasonable surety staying within the jurisdiction of the court for each defendant and must submit his or her password and a bail bond of N500, 000.

He therefore said that the defendants must be at the court at the next adjourned date, February 27, 2024.
Reacting to the rulling, Barr. Ayiwulu Baba-Ayiwulu, Counsel to the defendants told newsmen that at last the protesters would go home to meet with their loved once.
He added that the new bail condition is reasonable enough and expressed optimism that they would be out of the Lafia Custodian Centre before the end of today because a lot of people are willing to stand as their surety.
Voice of Nigeria recalls that the Nigeria Police had on January 19, 2024 arrested the protesters for blocking Lafia/Jos road after the Supreme Court judgment that affirmed the victory of Governor Abdullahi Sule of Nasarawa State.
The police said that the protesters comprising eight men and 30 women, had contravened the peace accord signed by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and All Progressives Congress (APC).
