Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri of Adamawa State has reaffirmed that the guidelines on the restriction of movement and other issues rolled out in March 2020 are still in force.

A statement by Governor Fintiri said the decision was born out of the concern about lack of compliance to the Covid-19 restrictions, warning, “Coronavirus Pandemic has emerged as a truly global health crisis.

The Adamawa State Governor said the measures were adopted in order to avoid stricter measures, which looks increasingly likely, while promising that the government would ensure that all health facilities were prepared and ready to handle any eventuality.

In the meantime, the Governor expressed disappointment that mandated measures to reduce transmission, like wearing of face masks, social distancing, washing of hands, and restrictions on public gatherings had not been adhered to by the people.

Consequently, he re-emphasised that social gatherings of more than 50 people at a time was still in force, thereby calling on the general public to adhere strictly to the provisions of the guidelines.

He reminded the public that it was compulsory to use facemasks in public or public transport.

There should be social distancing in any gathering, washing of hands and use of hand sanitisers should be encouraged.

Hospitality, businesses such as Clubs, Cinema halls, Event centres, Conferences and Congresses and other similar gatherings with a population beyond 100 remain banned.

Movement between 10 pm and 5 am is also not allowed. Leaders at Worship centres are therein advised to ensure use of face mask by all, while ensuring social distancing,” Governor Fintiri said.

He warned directed clubs, event centres or business premises found contravening the rule that they would be closed down and that security agencies had been directed to ensure strict adherence to these protocols and any other protocol imposed by the Federal Government.

“I am of the view that we should not wait, as happened earlier, for this virus to again spiral out of control before taking action. “he said.

Governor Fintiri adds that the world is facing a surge in Coronavirus cases and hospital admissions.
