Cricket: Nigeria Beats Sierra Leone Eyes Second Win
Nigeria’s senior women’s cricket team, the Female Yellow Greens, will hope to make it two wins in a row when they take on debutants Cameroon in their second game of the NCF T20i tournament in Lagos on Tuesday in Lagos.
The Female Yellow Greens began their campaign with a six wickets win over Sierra Leone in the opening game of the tournament on Monday.
Seirra Leone won the toss and chose to bat first. However, they could only manage 65 runs for the loss of 9 wickets in 19 overs, leaving Nigeria to do the bare minimum to win the game.
Nigeria initially struggled with the batting in the second innings and still posted 67 runs with the loss of three wickets in 14 overs.
Nigeria’s coach, Leke Oyede, said he was impressed by the turnaround and is confident that his team will improve with every game in the tournament.
“We were looking forward to our batters to bat out the runs in the giving overs, but we were a bit shaken. Thankfully, others came in and did a great job to see out the game,” Oyede said.
“Improving our bowling is also another curve and we will surely correct most of these things as we go forward,” he added.
Nigeria’s Lucky Piety won the player of the match award, thanks to her 22 runs off 24 balls and winning two wickets.
