Crimes: Police in FCT arrests 6 Suspects

Nigeria Police in the Federal Capital Territory,  have arrested suspects for impersonation, Armed Robbery, “One Chance Gang” and other heinous crimes in the FCT.

The Commissioner of Police, CP Olatunji  Disu who made this known while parading suspects, said some of the suspects were apprehended dressed in a full Nigerian Army camouflage uniform.

CP Disu also revealed that during interrogation, one of the suspects presented a fake military identification card that listed December 20, 2024, as his date of birth, raising immediate suspicions.

Police have commenced an investigation into the matter, with efforts ongoing to identify and apprehend other members of the syndicate.

The Commissioner reiterated the commitment and assured Residents of the Territory that additional updates will be provided as investigations progress.

He confirmed that 296 vehicles were impounded for various traffic violations, including the use of tinted glasses without proper authorization, driving with only one plate number, and using concealed or defaced number plates.

This operation aims to ensure compliance with traffic regulations and prevent the misuse of vehicles for criminal activities.

CP Disu Spoke on some of the Command’s notable achievements was the arrest of six ‘One Chance’ groups that had terrorized residents in recent months.

“On November 23, 2024, operatives from the State Intelligence Department apprehended a suspect, during a routine patrol along Ahmadu Bello Way. Items recovered from his vehicle included a Point-of-Sale (POS) machine, a knife, scissors, two mobile phones, and female luggage suspected to be stolen. 

“The Suspect is currently in custody and will face prosecution upon the conclusion of the investigation.” 

He also narrated that “On November 6, 2024, the Command apprehended three members of a gang known for impersonating law enforcement officers to abduct unsuspecting victims. Further investigations led to the arrest of additional suspects:  Recovered items included a silver Toyota Corolla (Reg. No. KUJ 27 TY) and a blue Mazda 323 (Reg. No. RBC 711 XL). The suspects have confessed to their crimes and are awaiting trial.”

In another success story, the Command rescued a heavily pregnant woman, who had been abducted by a ‘One Chance’ gang posing as commercial vehicle operators.

The swift response by operatives from the Karimo Division led to the arrest of a suspect, one suspect at the scene, while efforts are ongoing to apprehend his accomplices.

CP Disu emphasized the importance of public cooperation in the fight against crime.

He urged residents to remain vigilant, report suspicious activities, and utilize the Command’s established communication channels to provide valuable information.
