The Gombe State Police Command has recorded another round of successes with the arrest and parade of suspects on various degrees of crime in parts of the state.

The Gombe State Command’s Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Buhari Abdullahi, said the command, under the leadership of Commissioner of Police, CP Hayatu Usman, had recorded achievements in recent days, following the arrest of 16 suspects from across the state.

According to him, the crimes range from criminal conspiracy and theft, adulteration of fertilizer and cheating, adulteration of food and drinks intended for sale, as well as unnatural offences.

The PPRO said the successes came about due to the collaboration and cooperation of the public, who alerted the police on time for the suspects to be apprehended.

He said four suspects were arrested with a substance produced from a mixture of powdered Okro with wood dust for sale to unsuspecting customers for consumption and another set of three suspected were paraded for adulterating fertilizer with sand.

ASP Abdullahi said five people were arrested and paraded for stealing one stanchion stand, iron overhead tank and barbed wire belonging to the Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security’s Government Grazing Reserve in Chilo-Kumo, Akko LGA.

The principal suspect, Absolom Akwara, a staff of the ministry, who is alleged to have sold the items to the other suspects, said he did not sell them.

He said he sent the other suspects, Amisu Buhari, Umar Musa and Nura Nasiru to bring the items from the field to the office for safekeeping before they were apprehended by the police.

Mr. Akwara is appealing for justice to be served in his case because he had duly put in writing to the traditional ruler of the area, his plan to transfer the items, which were being stolen by miscreants in the area, to the office.
