Cross River Carnival Commission Partners With Brazil for Quality Content

The Cross River State Carnival Commission has established a partnership with the Brazilian embassy in Nigeria to improve the quality of its contents.

The chairman of the commission, Mr. Gabe Onah gave the hint during a chat with some journalists in Calabar, the capital of Cross River State, southern Nigeria.
Onah, who stated that the 2023 Edition of Carnival Calabar would be fireworks, disclosed that with the participation of Governor Bassey Otu the carnival offerings have been holistically reviews and the former contents reintroduced.
According to him, “we desire the Cross River people to get ready for the fireworks that they are known to offer to the world; that Nigerians should be ready. With the theme already unveiled as ‘Season of Sweetness’ and our collaboration with the Brazilian Embassy, we are determined to improve on quality of finished works from our costumes to wire bending to the floats on the road.”
“for the governor to have also reintroduced some of the strong products and items of the carnival after a holistic review, from the children’s carnival, the night of the king and queens and of course to the water show, which is the boat regatta, tourists, visitors and guests are in for the best fun ever.”

Also speaking after the meeting, the Commissioner for Tourism, Arts and Culture, Mr. Robert Ewa described the meeting as timely and proactive.
Ewa stated, “from our discussion, the commission is more than prepared to tackle the challenges ahead and give us a good show this year. I can assure you that this year’s Carnival Calabar will be different because we our bringing in new ideas and innovations.
“We are going to do our best by using our superior contacts to scout for sponsorship. I can assure our sponsors that they will have no cause to regret partnering with they us,” the commissioner assured.
Support infrastructure
The Executive Secretary of the commission, Mr. Austin Cobham said that other measures to host the best street show this year were undergoing rehabilitation.
Cobham disclosed that the commission alongside line Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDA) including security organisation were working assiduously to make the 2023 edition bigger, better and worthwhile.
According to him, “we will have no excuse if we do not deliver on our mandate to give the world a great show given the composition of the commission. In addition to other products reintroduced is the essay competition to sustain the academic component of the carnival.
“Internally, we are working with relevant MDAs to get our local roads fixed. Already, some of our roads are wearing a new look. Street lights coming on and we are trying to ensure that we have a steady lighting along the carnival route for a better experience,” Cobham disclosed.
Similarly, the member in charge of media at the commission, Mrs. Grace-Ann Nku said that effort to involve Nigerian artiste in this year’s carnival was ongoing, noting “we are doing all to encourage prospective sponsors and started wide range consultation with Nollywood industry.
“We are optimistic that this year’s event will attract more sponsorship because this is going to be fireworks as the multiplying effect will be humongous to the ordinary persons of the street. This is our uniqueness and we must show it in the best form to the world this year,” she added.
