Governor of Cross River State, Bassey Otu has declared his intention to increase the agro-industrial revolution in the state by focusing on three commodities, palm oil and fisheries in the south, and cocoa in the central region.

Governor Out stated at his inaugural address given at the UJ Esuene Stadium in Calabar, that he would rely on agriculture to increase the state’s income.

“We will reinstate the oil palm and fisheries industries in Calabar, and create and quickly open trade consultation centers for cocoa in Ikom and rice in Ogoja,” he said.

He stated that his predecessor has already laid the foundation for him to forge a feasible and productive economy.

“I am committed to transforming the economy of Cross River State by setting up an active agricultural system backed by various trading hubs. We will also investigate all commercial and legal pathways to ensure that Tinapa achieves its full potential.

“We hope to engage with the Labour Union dispassionately on the feasible and sustainable paths for dealing with our depleting civil service, given that over 75% of our manpower will be retiring before December 2024.

“The same worrisome narrative applies to the backlog of staff promotions, with a corresponding severance burden in excess of 54 billion,” he stated.
