Cross River State Government Pledges Support for Cocoa Farmers

The Cross River State Government has pledged support for cocoa farmers, commenced distribution of improved cocoa seedlings in the Southern Senatorial District of the state.

Flagging off the exercise, the State Deputy Governor, Ivara Esu, noted that other government supports will come through stipends and resources to encourage local production.

Represented by a former Finance Commissioner in the state, Asuquo Ekpenyong, the deputy governor restated the state government’s support for cocoa farmers, including capacity building and inputs distribution.

On his part, the Special Adviser to the Governor Ben Ayade on Cocoa Development and Control, Oscar Ofuka, noted that 100,000 seedlings will be distributed for free, adding that the idea was to create green millionaires across the state.

According to him, the state is driving the cocoa revolution with passion. Also, the President of the Calabar South Traditional Rulers Council, Munene Maurice Okon Eyo, informed that the traditional institution is in support of the cocoa revolution going on across the state particularly in the Southern Senatorial District.

Meanwhile, the distribution of improved cocoa seedlings was carried out at the Cocoa Demonstration Farm in Cross River Broadcasting Corporation, (CRBC).
