Cross River State Governor Appoints Principal Officers

The Governor of Cross River State in southern Nigeria, Senator Bassey Otu has appointed eight principal officers to kick-start his administration.

A statement signed by the Permanent Secretary, General Administration, Office of the Secretary to the State Government, Dr. Innocent Eteng indicated that a former Vice Chancellor of the Cross River State University of Technology, Professor Anthony Owan-Enoh has been appointed as the Secretary to the State Government.

An astute grassroots politician, Mr. Emmanuel Ironbark has been appointed the Chief of Staff, while the Chairman of the Nigerian Union of Journalists, NUJ, Federal Capital Territory, FCT Council and Editor, Abuja Inquirer, Emmanuel Ogbeche is the Chief Press Secretary to Governor Otu.

Other appointments, the statement indicated included the Senior Special Adviser, Security (State Security Adviser) is Major General Okoi Ubi Obono; who would be working with three Special Advisers for each of the senatorial districts.

They Special Advisers are a former Assistant Inspector General of Police, Mr. John Abang central; for northern senatorial district is Mr. Achu Ben Olayi and retired Commander Patrick Offiong has been approved to hold security brief in the southern district of Cross River State.

Also appointed to serve as the Acting State Chief of Protocol is Mr. Sylvester Otu Abang, a former protocol officer to the immediate past deputy governor, Professor Ivara Esu.

According to the statement, “the appointments take immediate effect.”

Meanwhile, members of the correspondents’ chapel of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, NUJ, Cross River State Council have congratulated Mr. Emmanuel Ogbeche on his appointment as the Chief Press Secretary to Governor Otu.

The correspondents expressed the hope that Mr. Ogbeche, who until his appointment was the Chairman of the FCT Council of the union, would bring his wealth of experience to bear as well as collaborate effectively with the media in Cross River for the benefit of the people and government.
