The Cross River State Governorship Candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Senator Sandy Onor has picked ace broadcast journalist, Mrs. Emana Ambrose-Amawhe as his running mate for the 2023 elections.

Professor Onor, who is the senator representing central senatorial district, presented his running mate to party faithful at the PDP secretariat in Calabar, the capital of Cross River State, south-south Nigeria.
Onor hinted that the decision to select Mrs. Amawhe was arrived at sequel to due consultations with stakeholders across board.

Let me announce to you that on taking this decision, every section of the party was thoroughly consulted. We came to the conclusion that there was need to strengthen our decision. You cannot adequately mobilize without the strength of a woman.

“We have been looking for ways and means of changing the narratives. Since late Cecilia Ekpenyong had a short sting, we have never carried our women along. We have concluded to pick a woman to fill the position of deputy governor.

“Women must also be integrated to take their pride of place. We needed a woman, who is young to appeal to the youths. We wanted a woman with deep intellect, a woman, who is humble enough and determined to work with us.

“And we found a princess. She has the momentum. She has the resilience for the task ahead. She contested this position with other men. All of them were very qualified. In life you must seek the good in every man because perfection only belongs to God,” Onor said.

Embodied capacity
Responding, the broadcaster, who was a staff of Channels Television, Mrs. Amawhe formally accepted the position and sued for the support of all the people to enable PDP win the 2023 elections.

Amawhe commended the part leadership for the confidence reposed in her and assured of her unalloyed loyalty and resolve to mobilize the electorate, especially women, to vote massively for the party.

She assured, “I am an embodiment of competence, capability and capacity. This I demonstrated in the just concluded House of Representatives primary election that was one of the most tensed elections because I was contesting against an elder, one of our leaders and a 5 term member of the House of Representatives. Although, he won, I was his nearest rival in the election.”

Meanwhile, the state party chairman, Mr. Venatius Ikem officially received some former members of the All Progressives Congress, APC, into the PDP.
