The Recover Nigeria Project (RNP), a prominent civil society organisation, has called for enhanced collaboration between the police and 179 communities in Anambra State to effectively tackle the rising tide of kidnappings, murders, and other criminal activities.
During a press conference held in Awka, the state capital, RNP leader Osita Obi emphasized that community members possess critical knowledge about local criminals and innocent residents alike, suggesting that securing the state hinges on citizens alerting law enforcement and security agencies to criminal activity within their neighbourhoods.
In addition to advocating for stronger community-police partnerships, RNP urged a comprehensive overhaul of the state’s police command to improve overall security for residents.
Obi further appealed to Anambra State Governor Professor Charles Soludo to conduct a thorough evaluation of personnel within his administration, arguing that such actions would significantly contribute to state security.
Obi urged the state Governor Professor Charles Soludo to lend his support to the newly appointed Commissioner of Police, Ikioye Orutugu. He highlighted the necessity for a renewed approach to security operations in the state.

The activist also called for an immediate investigation of former Commissioner of Police Nnaghe Obono-Itam following the escape of two suspects connected to the murder of Anambra Labour Party (LP) lawmaker, Mr. Justice Azuka who represented Onitsha North 1 constituency.
Obi noted that the incident happened while Obono-Itam was commissioner of police in Anambra State.
According to State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, “The suspects, Ikemefuna Ossai and Chinedu Okolie, managed to evade capture during an operation aimed at apprehending additional suspects.”
Obi argued, “This escape was not merely an oversight; it was a well-orchestrated event that requires investigation.”
He criticized the former commissioner for failing to communicate key developments to his successor before leaving the post, asserting the need for a thorough inquiry into his actions.
“We must understand how individuals under arrest could simply walk away from law enforcement. There must be accountability,” he insisted.
He did, however, commend Governor Soludo for the establishment of “Agunechemba,” a vigilante framework aimed at assisting federal security forces in maintaining peace and order in the state.
