Cybercrime: Gombe Governor Urges Collaboration Among Anti-Corruption Stakeholders

Gombe State Governor, Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya, has called for collaboration among key anti-corruption stakeholders to combat corruption, particularly cybercrime, during his participation in the 2024 National Cybercrime Summit in Abuja.

The summit, organised by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) in partnership with the Rule of Law and Anti-Corruption Programme (RoLAC) and the European Union (EU), focused on enhancing digital skills as a strategy to combat cybercrime. Themed “Alternative to Cybercrime: Optimizing Cyber Skills for National Development,” the event was aimed at fostering digital resilience and securing a sustainable online environment.

Nigeria’s First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, inaugurated the summit and launched a Rapid Response Centre to address cybercrime emergencies.

Speaking after the event, Governor Yahaya praised the EFCC for its timely initiative and stressed the need for multi-level cooperation, including the involvement of youths, to promote positive alternatives to cybercrime. He reiterated his government’s commitment to partnering with the federal government, EFCC, and other relevant bodies to tackle the growing threat of cybercrime.

The summit saw the participation of key figures such as the Chairman of the Nigeria Governors’ Forum, Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq, the governors of Katsina and Zamfara, members of the National Assembly, the Sultan of Sokoto, and other dignitaries, according to a statement by Ismaila Uba Misilli, Director-General (Press Affairs), Government House, Gombe.
