Dangote Cement Awards Scholarships To Students In Host Communities

The management of the Dangote Cement Plant in Ibese, Ogun state has awarded scholarships to one hundred and nineteen students from its host communities.

This was done as a way of empowering them and giving back to society.

The company also empowered fifty women and provided Weeding machines to sixty farmers to boost their productivity while also empowering the youths of the communities with vocational training.

These announcements were made during the Dangote 2023 Community Day in Ibese, Ogun State.

In his address at the event, the Plant Director of the Ibese Cement factory, Nawabuddin Azad while commending the host communities called for more participation and partnership for the company to make a more meaningful impact on the well-being of the people and development of the society.

According to him “a lot has happened to test our resilience and innovation as an organisation and as a people, but with your unalloyed support, we have been able to weather the storm and remain afloat”. We have continued to get better in this stride, in fulfilment of the pact we have with the host communities and to complement the efforts of the Government in improving the standard of living of the people,”

The challenges notwithstanding, we can continue the upward trajectory in the delivery of our socio-economic development promises in line with our commitment to improving the overall well-being of our people, he said.

Azad stated that “this year the company embarked on twenty-three (23) social investment projects and revamp of ten (10) non-functional CSR projects across the seventeen (17) host communities, in line with the thematic focus of Dangote Cement Plant’s Social Investments.

He listed some of the completed projects to include the installation of 33/0.415KV line through a 500KVA step-down transformer in Imasayi, the construction of a Health Centre at Ijako Orile, and revamp of 2 Nos Boreholes with Solar Power in Balogun among others”.

Azad urged the leaders and members of the host community to be deliberate in ensuring the sustainability of all the social interventions to get maximum value creation from them.

The 2023 Dangote Community Day which is the second edition celebrated the social development milestones achieved by the Plant in the year while also galvanising support for a better outlook in 2024.

The occasion had dignitaries from the different groups in the host communities including the traditional rulers, women and youth groups as well as farmers and other artisans.
