The defending champions of the Dapo Abiodun Cup, Shooting Stars Sports Club of Ibadan, started its defence on a winning note as they defeated Kwara United 1-0 with Malomo Ayodeji netting the winner in the 47th minute.
This result gives Shooting Stars a second place spot in Group A with three points and + one goal difference and none against.
Ijebu United, also in Group A, recorded its first victory after a 2-1 win against Gateway FC, with goals scored by Tijani Teniola and Ifeanyi Ihemekwele, giving the team a lead on the table with three points, two goals scored and +1 goal difference. Ijebu United top the table after scoring more goals than Shooting Stars.
In Group B, Remo Stars defeated Ottasolo FC 2-0 with goals scored by Tolulope Ojo and Seun Ogunribide to lift the Soname Boys to the top of Group B with three points. MFM FC played a goalless draw against Niger Tornadoes to share the points. Sunshine Stars of Akure were on bye today.
In Wednesday’s Group A games, 3SC will slug it out against Gateway FC by 7.30am at the Practice pitch of the Dipo Dina International Stadium, Ijebu-Ode. Gateway FC need to win the match if they really want to challenge for the knock out round of the preseason tournament after loss against Ijebu United.
The second Group A match would see Ijebu United slug it out with Kwara United on Pitch 1, with kick off fixed for 9.30am.
In another Group B game on Wednesday, Ottasolo FC that lost their first match against Remo Stars, will face Mountain of Fire and Miracle Fc at 3.30pm, while Sunshine Stars will battle Remo Stars at 9.30am in their first match of the tournament.
