Nigeria’s President, Bola Tinubu has sympathised with the King of Morocco, Mohammed VI following a devastating earthquake in his homeland, which claimed many lives.
President Tinubu conveyed his heartfelt condolences in a statement signed and released by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Ajuri Ngelale.
According to the statement, “the President commiserates with all families who lost loved ones and all those affected by the tragedy while wishing a full and swift recovery to those who were injured.”
“In the face of this adversity, Nigeria will continue to stand in solidarity with Morocco as they recover, rebuild, and come out stronger than ever from this unfortunate event,” the President said.
President Tinubu further assured the government and the people of Morocco that the heartfelt prayers and thoughts of Nigerians are with them during this difficult moment of tragedy.
Report says at 11:11 pm local time on Friday night, a 6.8 magnitude tremor struck the Ighil area of Morocco, around 40 miles south of Marrakech. It’s one of the most powerful and devastating earthquakes to have ever hit the country, with the death toll having risen exponentially since the time of impact.
At least 1,037 people have been killed and more than 1,200 injured, 205 of whom have been deemed to be “seriously hurt,” according to Morocco’s Interior Ministry.
Tributes and prayers from around the globe have followed, with leaders and diplomats offering support and relief materials to the country.
