Defence Minister Charges Military with Ensuring Lasting Peace, Stability

The Minister of State for Defence, Dr. Bello Matawalle, has charged Joint Task Force Commanders with the imperative of securing enduring peace and stability throughout Nigeria.

Delivering his charge at the Chief of Defence Staff’s Joint Task Force Commanders’ Conference 2024 in Abuja, themed “Consolidating Operational Successes across all Theatres of Operations,” Dr. Bello Matawalle commended the Nigerian military for its remarkable strides in safeguarding the nation’s interests.

In a statement released by the Director of Information and Public Relations, Henshaw Ogubike, the Minister, serving as the Special Guest of Honour, underscored the importance of the conference as a forum for key stakeholders to assess operational achievements and chart a strategic course for future endeavours.

Dr. Matawalle emphasised, “This gathering serves as a pivotal opportunity to recognize the significant progress we’ve made in protecting the lives and properties of our citizens, while also reflecting on the invaluable lessons gleaned from challenges encountered in our diverse theatres of operations.”

He emphasised the importance of jointness in military operations and reiterated the need for a cohesive and integrated approach to addressing the evolving security landscape.

“The constantly revolving dynamics of the security challenges we are facing require corresponding strategies that will incorporate a holistic and integrated approach to warfare where synergy among our services is paramount,” he said.

Acknowledging the pivotal role of local communities in the fight against insurgency and criminality, Matawalle underscored the need for establishing trust and cooperation with the civilian population.

“The locals are not merely bystanders in the fight against terrorism and other forms of criminality; they are one of the most valuable allies. Thus, we must show them that we are here to protect them.”

Furthermore, the Minister reaffirmed the commitment of the administration of  President Bola Ahmed Tinubu (GCFR) to ensure the safety and security of all Nigerians.

The highlight of the Conference was the unveiling of the book titled “Complex  Military Operations: Operation Hadin Kai in Perspective,” written by Major General Edward S. Buba.

The Joint Task Force Commanders Conference 2024 serves as a pivotal platform for fostering collaboration, sharing insights, devising innovative strategies to address prevailing security challenges and consolidating operational successes across all theatres of operations.
