The Minister of Defence, General Christopher Musa (Rtd), has inaugurated a Monthly Operational Briefing framework within the Ministry of Defence.

General Musa directed the Chief of Defence Staff and Service Chiefs to intensify efforts and deploy implementable strategies aimed at the timely eradication of terrorism, insurgency, and banditry across Nigeria.

A statement issued by the Special Adviser on Media to the Minister, Colonel Timothy Antigha (Rtd), confirmed that the maiden briefing was held earlier on Wednesday at the Ministry’s Conference Room in Abuja, providing a structured platform to review ongoing operations and issue strategic guidance to the Armed Services.

The Minister while addressing the service Chiefs underscored the evolving threat landscape confronting the country and stressed the urgency of decisive, coordinated responses.

He called for renewed operational innovation and synergy across the Armed Forces to sustain pressure on violent criminal networks.

General Musa commended the professionalism, resilience, and gallantry of Nigerian troops, reaffirming the Ministry’s commitment to enhancing personnel welfare and strengthening operational efficiency across all theatres.

He maintained that troop support systems remained central to sustaining combat effectiveness and morale.

Addressing concerns surrounding the presence of United States Africa Command personnel in Nigeria, the Minister clarified that US AFRICOM’s role remains limited to training assistance and advisory support.

He reassured that the Armed Forces of Nigeria retain full command and control of all operations conducted within national territory.

The introduction of the Monthly Operational Briefing signals an institutional shift toward structured oversight, performance review, and strategic alignment within the defence architecture, reinforcing the Ministry’s intent to sustain operational momentum against security threats nationwide.
