Defence Ministry Reaffirms Support for Nigerian Air Force

The Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Defence, Mr. Richard Pheelangwa has reaffirmed the Ministry’s commitment to supporting the Nigerian Air Force in protecting lives and safeguarding national security.

Pheelangwa gave the assurance during a visit to the Chief of the Air Staff, Air Marshal Sunday Kelvin Aneke, at the Air Force Headquarters in Abuja.

The visit forms part of Mr. Pheelangwa’s ongoing familiarisation tour of the Services under the Ministry of Defence.

He said “the visit was intended to strengthen the institutional relationship between the Ministry and the Air Force and to establish closer engagement that would enhance the framework for supporting the operations of the Service.”

He reiterated the Ministry’s readiness to continue providing the necessary support required for the Air Force to deliver on its national responsibilities, while commending the Chief of the Air Staff and his team for their professionalism and dedication to duty.

The Permanent Secretary also acknowledged the leadership of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, noting that “the administration’s commitment to national security continues to shape the strategic direction of the Armed Forces.”

Responding, the Chief of the Air Staff, Air Marshal Sunday Kelvin Aneke, highlighted several areas where enhanced support from the Ministry would further strengthen the operational capacity of the Service. These include timely approvals and release of funds, acquisition of additional helicopters, expansion of accommodation and infrastructure as the Service continues to grow, as well as the regularisation of teaching and medical personnel serving in Air Force schools and hospital facilities.

Air Marshal Aneke assured the Permanent Secretary of the Nigerian Air Force’s continued cooperation with the Ministry of Defence in advancing national security objectives and sustaining the operational readiness of the Service.
