Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya has hailed the visible transformation and sustained development in Gombe State as compelling evidence of the enduring benefits of democratic governance in Nigeria.
In a goodwill message to commemorate Democracy Day on 12 June 2025, the Governor emphasised that progress across key sectors in Gombe, such as infrastructure, healthcare, education, agriculture, youth empowerment, and industrialisation, was a direct result of purposeful leadership, policy continuity, and the enabling environment fostered by democratic institutions.
“From modest beginnings, Gombe has emerged as one of the fastest-growing states in Nigeria,” the Governor stated.
Our success story is rooted in democratic governance, visionary planning, and the resilience of our people,” Governor Yahaya said.
He highlighted landmark initiatives such as the Network 11-100 roads project, environmental restoration efforts, the revitalisation of education and healthcare, the DEVAGOM economic blueprint, and wide-ranging institutional reforms as tangible demonstrations of democracy’s potential to deliver meaningful change when grounded in accountability, transparency, and inclusivity.
“Democracy has become more than an ideal; it is the foundation on which our people access quality public services, infrastructure, and economic opportunity,” Governor Yahaya said.

While acknowledging that Nigeria’s democratic journey has not been without its challenges, the Governor described 26 years of uninterrupted civilian rule as a remarkable achievement, particularly on a continent where democracy is often threatened by instability and authoritarianism.
“As the largest democracy in Africa, Nigeria has remained committed to democratic principles despite complex socio-political and economic challenges. Our ability to transition peacefully between administrations and to navigate national challenges is a testament to our democratic maturity,” the Governor said.
Governor Yahaya, who also chairs the Northern States Governors’ Forum, extended heartfelt congratulations to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and all champions of democracy across the nation, recognising their dedication, sacrifices, and contributions to democratic consolidation in Nigeria.
He described Democracy Day as an opportunity to celebrate these efforts and to reaffirm a commitment to the values of freedom, justice, and national unity.
The Gombe State Governor also commended the media for its critical role in deepening democratic culture, while cautioning against the dangers of misinformation and divisive rhetoric.
“Our administration remains committed to building a peaceful, inclusive, and prosperous Gombe, a true model of democratic success. We shall continue to pursue policies that prioritise the welfare and aspirations of our people,” he said.
The Governor urged citizens to remain united, law-abiding, and prayerful, noting that the collective resolve of all Nigerians is essential to building a stronger, more stable, and truly democratic nation.
