In observance of the 2024 Democracy Day celebrations, the Governor of Kaduna State, Uba Sani, has exercised his discretionary powers to grant clemency to 110 inmates at the Kaduna Correctional Centre.

The Governor implored the recently released individuals to uphold good conduct in their future pursuits and abstain from any behaviour that may result in their re-incarceration.

He has also instructed the Attorney General and Commissioner of Justice to collaborate with the Controller on addressing other areas of necessity.

Democracy Day is a national public holiday in Nigeria to commemorate the restoration of democracy in 1999, commemorated on June 12. Until 2018, it was celebrated annually on May 29. It is a tradition that has been held annually, beginning in the year 2000. June 12 was formerly known as Abiola Day, celebrated in Lagos and some South Western States of Nigeria.
