A Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) chieftain in Osun, Prince Dotun Babayemi, has called on Nigerians to always strive to ensure that the country works and becomes one of the best in the world.

Babayemi, in a message issued in Osogbo on Monday in commemoration of this year’s Democracy Day, said this could only be possible if Nigerians believed that the country was a project that should not fail.

This, he said, equally required pragmatic steps and the support of those at the helm of affairs.

“Without doubt, democracy allows for diverse latitude of expressions.

“This makes a nation and its people to collocate for common good.

“In Nigeria, we are revving toward that progressive trajectory, especially with our democratic experience maturing by the day.

“Yes, if our democratic threshold was shaky, we are today far better than where we were coming from,” he said.

Babayemi, a former PDP governorship aspirant in the state, said that the 2023 general elections, which led to the emergence of various elected leaders across the country, was an evidence that the nation was already coming of age.

“Our last elections, which have put in place new set of leaders at all levels of governance in the country, spell this.

“It might not have been a perfect process but gradually, we are getting there,” he said.

Babayemi also pleaded that Nigerians must be positive minded about the country.

“As we mark another democracy day, we must all strive to make Nigeria work.

“We don’t have any other place we can call our own. Let’s support the government of the day with everything in us and continue to be law-abiding,” the PDP chieftain said.
