The President of Defence and Police Officers’ Wives Association, (DEPOWA), Mrs. Oghogho Musa, has given twenty barrack youths and graduates of Defence Skills Acquisition Centre as well as twenty widows of fallen heroes starter Kits and relief materials to start up small businesses.
Mrs. Musa made presented the materials during the graduation of the first set of Defence Skills Acquisition Centre and Humanitarian Outreach for Widows of Fallen Heroes in Abuja, Nigeria’s capital.
According to her, beneficiaries should ensure to put to practice the skills acquired to be self-reliant, industrious and above all employers of labour.
Mrs. Musa said that “this is to encourage them start their own trade in order to support their academic endeavours as she is looking forward to seeing and knowing that they are all doing well in the areas of entrepreneurship”.
She noted that there is a very limited job in the labour market today and nations are embracing skills acquisition.
“These skills acquisition programmes and other humanitarian and social intervention programmes being initiated by DEPOWA are geared towards aligning with the non-kinetics campaigns of the Armed Forces of Nigeria,” she added.
According to her, kinetic and non-kinetic campaigns are part and parcel of military strategies used to win the war against terrorism, banditry and other forms of criminalities bedeviling the nation.
The Nigerian Chief of Defence Staff, Major General Christopher Musa appreciated the DEPOWA president, his wife for her unwavering commitment, dedication to reasonable costs, as well as to the organizers who put efforts to make the event possible.
“They did a good job,” he said.
According to him, DEPOWA are taking a proactive step towards security and a brighter future for themselves and their families.
