The Defence and Police Officers Wives Association of Nigeria (DEPOWA) has assured that it will continue to strengthen the welfare of the families of Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs).
The National President of DEPOWA, Mrs. Oghogho Musa made this known when she visited Durumi Internal Displaced Persons Camp at Area 1 in Abuja, Nigeria’s capital.
Mrs. Musa said “their visit centered on reaffirming their commitment to serve all citizens, especially the most vulnerable among them”.
She reminded the IDPs of the power of compassion in healing wounds and restoring faith in humanity.
“It is important to state that the plight of our internally displaced persons serves as a reminder of the devastating impact of conflict and displacement on innocent lives. It is a sobering reality that compels us to act with urgency and humanity,” she added.
She noted that as a way of reaching out to the populace, DEPOWA celebrated the spouses of the fallen heroes during the Armed Forces Remembrance Day and Celebration at Port Harcourt, Yenagoa and environs, therefore, were there to celebrate and honour the internally displaced persons.
She thanked the mother of the nation, Senator Oluremi Tinubu for her Renewed Hope Initiative towards humanity and upliftment of women and children out of poverty.
She urged IDPs to continue to stand united and assured them that the Armed Forces is doing everything possible to integrate them with their families and communities.
The Coordinator Abuja IDPs Camp, Mr. Iris Ahlilu said there are three thousand, four hundred IDPs in this camp.
Ahlilu also expressed his gratitude to DEPOWA for their kind gesture.
The Women Leader, Yatu Ayuba who was happy with the gesture urged the DEPOWA President to continue doing the good job.
